Introduction
Introduction:
Our goal is to prepare students with access to interdisciplinary knowledge to broaden their horizons. Our courses are categorized into four categories: Languages, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Mathematics and the Sciences, all of which are planned and designed by professors of relevant fields within the University. In each category, we set the regulations for minimal credit requirements, whereby each undergraduate student must take at least 39 credits in general courses and physical education classes. These regulations have been implemented in hopes of ensuring that students a broad and comprehensive knowledge-base as well as exposure to a variety of academic perspectives. To meet this goal of comprehensive education, the core courses have been designed with the intension of cultivating students’ language ability, humanistic spirit, law knowledge, business management skills, as well as mathematical, scientific, and technological abilities.
Development:
l A UNIQUE PROGRAM BECAUSE OF EXPECTATION
General Education Program of NDHU, with the ideal of holistic education as our goal, offers students courses outside of their concentration to broaden their horizons of knowledge and visions. We expect every student to be a person with a grand vision, as well as the qualities of honesty, modesty, and philanthropy.
Characteristics:
l A UNIQUE ARRANGEMENT BASED ON NATURE, DIVERSITY, AND RESPECT
General Education Program of NDHU, with its arrangement of four categories and a set of core courses, aims to provide for students a liberal education that connects the self and the world by covering knowledge in modern disciplines and the distinctive natural environment and cultural diversity of Eastern Taiwan. In addition, the program’s minimum credit requirements for each category and association with core courses in respective colleges allow students to organize individual schedules autonomously, independently, and flexibly.
Future Study and Career:
General Education Program of NDHU, with its equal emphasis on both the width and depth of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, seeks to boost students’ motivation and confidence in learning courses apart from their own majors. Students may choose courses in each of the four categories of the program and at the same time engage in the integration of General Education courses with the core curriculum of their respective colleges. Moreover, in each semester, we will invite experts and scholars inside and outside the University to give thematic lectures that enable students’ access to a broader scope of insights.
